La Palm supports disaster victims

The management of La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, in partnership with Joy FM, has supplied potable water and other items to the people living in the areas affected by the June 3 flood and fire disasters to help prevent the outbreak of communicable diseases, and also bring relief to the people.

The General Manager of La Palm, Mrs Marigold Mingle, assisted by 30 staff members of the hotel, presented 1,000 bags of purified water and three tankers of potable water to the affected people at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, which was the hardest hit by the twin disasters that claimed 159 lives.

The other items included medical supplies, bed sheets, towels, pillows and 1,000 packets of cooked meal.

The donation, the general manager said, was in support of the government’s efforts to bring relief to the affected people.

She pledged the hotel’s continued support for government’s efforts to bring relief to them, saying the management and staff of the hotel were touched by their plight and expressed the hope that the water and the items would help to alleviate their suffering.

The general manager, in the company of members of staff of the hotel, later toured the area and distributed some of the items to the affected homes to commiserate with the victims, whom she assured of the hotel’s continued support.

“This gesture is in line with our corporate social responsibility which, among other things, is to assist the needy such as victims of natural disasters,” Mrs Mingle said.

Water supply to Adabraka and surrounding areas, where the disaster struck, had been cut and many of the victims said they urgently needed water to wash their belongings, which they had salvaged from the floods.

The residents therefore expressed their appreciation to the management and staff of La Palm Royal Beach Hotel and Joy FM for bringing them water and the other items.
