Lions Clubs in Ghana present PPE to Akuse Hospital, Police Prisons
The Lions Clubs of District 418, Ghana have presented various items to the Akuse Local Prison, the Akuse Hospital and the Akuse District Police Headquarters to help the institutions to deal with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The items, which were valued at GH¢16,000, included Lions Clubs branded nose masks, face shields, hand sanitiser and toiletries.

Presenting the items, the President of the Tema Supreme Lions Club, Lion Ivy Akude, said the gesture was aimed at supporting the government’s efforts to fight COVID-19 in the country.
She said the Lions Clubs in the country came together to present the items, as a way of helping to ease the burden on the shoulders of the institutions and also to bring some relief to the beneficiaries.
Lion Akude noted that the gesture was made possible through contributions made by the various Lions Clubs in Ghana.
She said the presentation was also in line with the objectives of Lions Clubs International, which, among others, was to deliver humanitarian services to mankind.

The clubs include Tema Lions Club, Tema Greenwich, Tema Supreme, Tema Harbour City, Accra Excel, Accra Premier, Accra Ultimate, Accra Golden, Accra Hills, Kascity and Ho Sentinel Lions Clubs.
Members of the Lions Clubs also educated members of the Akuse community on the deadly COVID-19 pandemic and presented face masks and hand sanitiser to members of the community, market women, passengers of commercial vehicles and people in private cars as well, and the young and old, who were present.
The Second-in-Command (2IC) of Reception at the Akuse Local Prison, ASP Rufus Eshun Mensah Jnr, expressed gratitude to the Lions Clubs of Ghana, for the donation and said it was timely.

ASP Mensah said the items would go a long way to help the prison fight the coronavirus pandemic and called on similar organisations to support the prison.
The Officer-in-Charge of the District Orderly Room at the Akuse District Police Headquarters, Chief Inspector Samuel Asante, said the donation was very important, as the items would help to protect them in the discharge of their duties, especially during these very challenging period of fighting the coronavirus.
