The MCE further urged traditional authorities to create an enabling environment for assemblies to have access to land without litigation. He said litigations over lands delayed development projects in the country.

Alhaji Boyong made the request at separate durbars in four communities in the Asante Akim Central Municipality in the Ashanti Region when the sod was cut for the commencement of works on four projects.

The projects, estimated at a total cost of GH¢766,571, are being funded from the assembly’s common fund.

The projects include two Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS compounds) at Boatengkrom and Kramokrom, a 20-seater water closet facility for the girls dormitory of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School and a three single unit apartment for the police at Konongo.

Each of the projects is expected to be completed in six months.

CHPS compound

The CHPS compounds would have consulting and waiting rooms, accommodation for staff, boreholes with motorised pump and a reservoir.

When completed, the facility at Boatengkrom would be expected to serve a population of about 1,300 people in seven communities, including Anawuokrom, parts of Praso and Dweaso. People from the communities have had to travel long distances to Praso for healthcare.

The Kramokrom CHPS compound, when operational, would serve about 2000 people from Alhaji, Anuruso, Adumkrom and surrounding communities who will no longer have to travel to Konongo for their healthcare needs.

The police building

The three single unit apartment for the police constitute the first phase of a 12 single unit apartment building that is to be built for the police at Konongo.

The MCE urged the communities to live in peace with the contractors and assist them so that they can complete the projects on schedule.

The Municipal Director of Health Services, Mr Martin Sarfo, commended the assembly for its support for the health directorate. He said the two compounds would improve health administration in the district.

He asked for further support, especially for personnel posted to the district so they could live free from stress and work hard to save lives.

The Headmistress of the Konongo Odumase Senior High School, Madam Comfort Odehe, said she was grateful to the assembly for the support it had provided the school. She,nevertheless, appealed to the assembly to help it with a new dormitory block and water system to save the school from recurrent water shortages.

The Chief of Dwease, Nana Owusu Banahene II, charged the assembly to ensure effective supervision of the projects so that they  are completed on schedule.
