Mallam residents appeal for reconstruction of damaged bridges
Residents of Mallam, a community in the Ga South Municipality, have appealed to the municipal assembly to reconstruct a concrete bridge that was destroyed as a result of the June 3 floods and also repair a wooden bridge that had been rendered weak and become wobbly as a result of the disaster.
They warned of a catastrophe in the area if the problem was not urgently addressed.
A resident in the area, Mr Jewel Ofori Poku, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, told the Daily Graphic that the June 3 floods destroyed a concrete bridge and also damaged a wooden structure constructed by the residents in another part of the community, thus turning it into a death trap.
According to him residents, including schoolchildren who used the wooden bridge, risked falling off as a result of its weak nature.
He added that there was also the possibility of people getting trapped in the gaping holes that had developed near the bridges as a result of the damage.
