The suspect, Kafui Kuevor, is said to have severed the forefinger of his step-sister after inflicting machete wounds on her head, hands, ears and other parts of her body.

The stepsister, Alwine Kuevor, is currently in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where the police claim doctors are contemplating amputating her two hands to save her life.

The niece, whose identity has been withheld, is said to have also sustained machete wounds on her head, hand and ears as her uncle allegedly attempted to slash her ears.

The young girl is said to have been treated and discharged at the same hospital.

Preliminary investigations

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Affia Tenge, said preliminary investigations by the police had revealed that Alwine and Kafui lived in the house of their deceased father at North Kaneshie, near the St Theresa’s School.

She said the police found out there had been a misunderstanding between Kafui and his siblings over the ownership of the house since the death of their father.

She said Kafui had been trying all means to deprive his siblings access to their late father’s property.

She added that at about 7:30 p.m. on March 24, 2016, a misunderstanding ensued between Kafui and Alwine over the property.

Threat

Kafui is said to have threatened to harm Alwine while the two were exchanging words. Kafui subsequently went to his room and returned with a machete and began inflicting wounds on Alwine.

While Alwine was shouting for help, her daughter, who heard her cry, attempted to go to her aid but she was also wounded by Kafui.

She said the Kaneshie Police arrested Kafui after receiving a report about the incident.
