Military commands now three to ensure internal security

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) are being restructured to effectively respond to internal security.

In line with that, the military commands have been increased from two to three, namely, the Southern Command with headquarters in Accra, Central Command with headquarters in Kumasi and the Northern Command with headquarters in Tamale.

The ultimate goal of the restructuring is to have army barracks in every region of the country.

The Defence Minister, Dr Benjamin Kunbour, who announced this in Accra yesterday when the ministry took its turn at the Meet-the-Press series, said the modernisation of the Ghana Armed Forces was about transforming them into motorised or mechanised battalions.
