The Miss Ghana Foundation has organised a voluntary blood donation exercise in Accra, during which 53 units of blood were mobilised to augment blood supply at the National Blood Service.

The foundation said the event formed part of the brand ambassador’s project with the National Blood Service, to organise voluntary blood donation exercise at least twice in a year to increase blood stock at the service.

The maiden exercise saw all 21 beautiful ladies vying for the 2015 Miss Ghana crown and their families participating in the blood donation exercise. They were supported by some local and international stars from Ghana and Nigeria, who thrilled their fans with music and dance performances.

Miss Ghana 2014, Ms Nadia Ntanu, who was the first to donate blood on the day, was appointed the Brand Ambassador for Voluntary Blood Donation activities in March 2015, to, among other things, assist the National Blood Service to intensify the sensitisation campaign on the need to donate blood voluntarily, and also to launch an appeal to corporate Ghana and institutions to support blood donation programmes.

Assurance

Ms Ntanu assured the public she would continue the advocacy programme on voluntary blood donation in her own small way after her reign in October this year, when a new queen takes over from her.

As per the National Blood Service’s collaboration with the Miss Ghana Foundation, whoever is crowned Miss Ghana becomes the automatic brand Ambassador for Voluntary Blood Donor activity and this is expected to be sustained for a long time.

The Graphic Communications Group Ltd, Exclusive Events Ghana, Starr FM, Daily Guide, the MamaYe Foundation and Marcel Desailly Foundation supported the event.
