He said MMDCEs were heads of security councils in the various  assemblies and must be committed to using profitably the security fund of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) in building more police stations to help fight crime.

He made the call on Kumasi-based Hello Fm as part of public education efforts to bring the police administration to the doorstep of the people in the region, assuring them of a firm stand against crime in the region especially.

DCOP Boakye said without commitment and personal involvement on the part of MMDCEs in the fight against crime, it would to some extent make the work of the police difficult in fighting crime all alone in the various MMDAs.

He further observed that  without ensuring the safety of the people they served, the MMDCs would not be able to deliver.

The police commander, however, entreated the general public, especially the MMDCEs, to collaborate with the police, saying that the fight against crime is a collective responsibility. He said the police administration in the region was mapping out plans to strengthen the police’s capacity in crime-prone areas of the region, especially in the Kumasi Metropolis where many there were reports of robbery.

He noted that a number of taxi drivers were using tainted glasses for commercial activities and used that opportunity to rob passengers. He stressed the need for the formation of landlords security associations and vigilante groups to complement the work of police patrols in the various residential areas to serve as a check on criminals.

DCOP Boakye called on Kumasi residents to feed the police with the necessary information on criminals to quicken the effort of the police in fighting crime in the metropolis.
