Mother, son die in accident on Nadowli road

A mother and her son lost their lives when the vehicle on which they were travelling was involved in an accident.

Linda Piiruong and her son, Godfred Kaabore, three years, were part of the three people who died on the spot when their bus burst two tyres while travelling from Nadowli in the Upper West Region to Techiman in Bono East Region.

The third victim has been identified as a 37-year-old Ba-enie Moone. Their bodies have since been deposited at the Wa Regional Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Upper West Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transportation Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Paul Buabeng Donkor, who confirmed the accident to Graphic Online said the accident occurred around 3pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

He said the bus with registration number AS 9788-22 loaded with 15 passengers including the driver, was travelling from Cherikpong in the Nadowli-Kaleo District to Techiman.

He said on reaching the Ponyentanga Dam, one of the tyres at the back of the bus disengaged from under the car together with the rim, in an attempt to stabilize the bus, the driver lost control and a second tyre together with the rim also came off.

ASP Donkor said in the process, the door at the passenger side of the bus also got removed, ejecting the three who were close to the door from the car.

He said the three got trapped under the bus and were dragged for a distance.

The three, were declared dead by the doctors and the bodies have since been sent to the regional morgue while the other victims have been rescued and sent to the same hospital and responding to treatment.
