The projects include a mechanised Internet of Things (IoT) borehole, a smart farm, a containerised ICT/Robotics laboratory, and an eight-seater washroom block.

These initiatives are part of MTN Ghana’s "30 Days Y'ello Care" programme, and the group's activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The initiative launched on June 5 on the theme: "Education for Rural and Urban Communities: Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow”, concluded at the school on Monday, July 1.

At the commissioning, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, expressed the group’s commitment to supporting education and community development.

He expressed the hope that the investments made would alleviate challenges for the students and allow them to focus on their studies to excel academically.

“Our theme for this year is a reminder that our educational systems must prepare our students today for the opportunities that lie ahead for them. So there is a need for us to equip young people with the necessary tools and resources for them to harness their potential,” he added.

He gave an assurance that MTN's social interventions would continue beyond the "30 Days of Y'ello Care" with ongoing support for educational programmes, particularly in STEM and digital skills training.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, commended MTN Ghana for its long-term commitment and investment in education, saying: “Every expenditure in education is more than just spending; it is a worthy investment in the future.

He said the government was committed to partnering the group to ensure that investments in education were accessible to all community members, particularly in underprivileged areas.

“The Minister of Education has put in the investments and has ensured that many schools across the country have digital platforms and have smart classrooms, and have the digital infrastructure that will support them so well,” the deputy minister added.

Appreciation

The Headmistress of Aburi Presbyterian Senior High Technical School, Joyce Appiah, expressed appreciation to MTN and said the new facilities and resources would have positive impact on the students’ academic performance and overall well-being.

Mrs Appiah said staff and students would ensure that the facilities were properly installed and maintained to serve their intended purpose.

The MTN's flagship initiative, the "30 Days of Y'ello Care" programme, was recently extended to a 30-day duration.

The annual volunteerism programme involves MTN employees dedicating time to community service, focusing on education, digital literacy, and infrastructure projects.

This year, the programme has impacted over 14,000 students and 25 senior high schools across the country.
