National Chief Imam visits BOST to congratulate new MD Afetsi Awoonor 

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, on Monday, January 27, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company (BOST), Mr. Afetsi Awoonor. 

The visit, held at BOST’s Head Office in Accra, was both a personal and professional occasion, as the Chief Imam congratulated Mr. Awoonor on his historic appointment as the youngest CEO in BOST’s history.  

The meeting carried a deep sense of familiarity, rooted in the long-standing relationship between their families. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, who was a close friend of Mr. Awoonor’s late father, the distinguished Professor Kofi Awoonor, described the newly appointed CEO as a son and expressed pride in his remarkable achievement.  

Mr. Awoonor’s appointment reflects a milestone for BOST, with his prior experience as a manager and extensive knowledge in the energy sector positioning him as a forward-thinking leader. The Chief Imam commended his appointment, noting the high level of trust and confidence placed in him by President John Dramani Mahama. He reminded Mr. Awoonor of the significant responsibilities that come with his new role and the expectations of both the administration and the Ghanaian people.  

During the visit, Sheikh Sharubutu offered wise counsel and words of encouragement to Mr. Awoonor and his management team, emphasising the importance of dedication, integrity, and a commitment to service. He urged the team to deliver on their mandate with diligence and innovation, given BOST’s critical role in Ghana’s energy sector. The visit culminated in a moment of prayer, as the Chief Imam sought divine blessings and guidance for Mr. Awoonor and the entire BOST leadership. 

Expressing gratitude for the Chief Imam’s visit, Mr. Awoonor acknowledged the immense honour and responsibility of his appointment. He pledged to lead BOST with determination and innovation, promising to uphold the confidence placed in him by President Mahama and to work towards achieving the company’s strategic objectives.
