NCA to ensure quality telecom services
The Director-General of the NCA, Mr Paarock Vanpercy, told the Daily Graphic in an interview that “the sanctions meted out to the operators are regular and, therefore, they are not a new things”.
Customers of telecom companies in the country have raised eyebrows over what they describe as poor quality services provided them by the operators.
Although the telecom companies have provided some explanations for their poor services, the customers find the excuses untenable because of the cost of the services to them.
Mr Vanpercy acknowledged the challenges that the customers faced with their network operators but said the NCA had always ensured that it abided by its mandate to check and deal with operators whose services fell short of the required standards.
He would not hold brief for the telecom companies but said the operators were faced with challenges, including fibre cuts by contractors, while thieves also tampered with their cables.
He urged the road agencies and other stakeholders to contact the telecom companies whenever they were about to construct roads, among others, for the companies to be told where the cables had to be laid to avoid any disruptions.
Mr Vanpercy said the telecoms chamber and the NCA were in constant consultation with the stakeholders and expressed the hope that in due course all the challenges would be things of the past.
Meanwhile, he said, where there were genuine breaches of the regulations to provide quality services, the NCA would not relent to slap fines on the operators that fell short of the standards.
