New classroom blocks provided for Fio Primary, Wungu T. I. Ahmadiyya JHS
Pupils and teachers of Fio Primary and Wungu T. I. Ahmadiyya Junior High schools in the North East Region can now heave a sigh of relief following the construction of new classroom blocks for the schools.

The three-unit classroom block each for the schools has been provided with furniture, staff common rooms, store rooms and lavatories.
Hitherto, the pupils had to sit in dilapidated classroom blocks to study, while the teachers sat under trees as their office, a situation which was hampering academic activities in the schools.
The facilities provided for the schools formed part of the Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion (SOCO) project being implemented in the region.
Funded by the World Bank, the $150 million SOCO project is aimed at improving economic activities in 48 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in six regions in the country.
The SOCO Project is a proactive response to the surging spillover of fragility, conflict and violence from the Sahel to the northern border regions, to improve regional collaboration and the socioeconomic and climate change resilience of border zone communities.
Interventions of the project are aimed at preventing the spread of conflict from the Sahel region, reducing vulnerability to climate change, strengthening local institutions, improving economic opportunities and building public trust.
Inauguration
Inaugurating the facilities at separate functions, the North East Regional Minister, Yidana Zakaria, underscored the need to lay a proper foundation at the basic level of education to prepare students for higher educational laurels to enable them to make meaningful contributions to society.
He said the intervention formed part of the government’s commitment to invest in educational infrastructure, particularly in deprived areas to enhance quality education in the country.

While urging the authorities of the schools to put the facilities to good use, he advised the children to take their studies seriously to enable them to become responsible persons in future.
Commendation
The SOCO Zonal Coordinator for the Upper East and North East regions, Samuel Agyarko Larbi, lauded the contractors for completing the projects on schedule.
He indicated that several similar projects had been completed while others were at advanced stages of completion.
The Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi, Issahaku Aremeyaw Somo, urged the authorities and the pupils to keep the facility and the other equipment donated to the school very well.
The Proprietor of Wungu T. I. Ahmadiyya, Issah Fuseini, thanked SOCO and the assembly for putting up the new building for the school and said it would go a long way to improve education.
