Estimated at a cost of GH¢60,000, the laboratory has been dedicated to the memory of the late Sergeant Gregory Owens Jnr, a former military officer with the United States of America army.

It is expected that the Sergeant Gregory Owens Jnr ICT Laboratory would also serve neighbouring communities within Achimota and Kisseiman.

The event, which took place at the forecourt of the school, was on the theme: “The importance of I.C.T. in the 21st Century.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic before the launch, the President of Ngorli, Staff Sergeant Raymond Amezado, said the organisation was particular about educating children and the youth, especially those in deprived communities.

He said the organisation would do its best to assist schools which were in deprived communities across the country.

“We also have plans in place to refurbish the library which serves the Anumle Cluster of Schools and stock it with books since it is in a deplorable state.”

“Additionally, we’re carrying out various projects in the Gomoa East District in the Central Region to help the community as well as the children in the area,” he said.

Explaining why the ICT centre was named after Sergeant Gregory Owens Jnr, the President said he was inspired by him to come home and help the underprivileged in education.

Staff Sergeant Amezado stressed that the organisation had outlined various programmes to assist the less-privileged children in society and noted that he was optimistic they would go a long way to impact lives positively.

The Achimota Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Nuhu Mohammed Will, said the school, together with the stakeholders, would erect a fence wall to prevent thieves from breaking into the laboratory to steal items from there.

He said the circuit would do everything possible to maintain the centre as well as the computers.

Mr Will also appealed to other benevolent organisations and individuals to come to the aid of the school since it lacked basic amenities which aided teaching and learning.

He cautioned users of the centre not to do anything which might destroy the computers.
