He has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with a surety to be justified. He could not, however, get any surety  from the Odumase Krobo Community and is in prison custody.

His two other accomplices, Ike Licrouse and Frida Aye, are however on the run.

The facts presented by ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy, were that on July 9, 2016, police officers from the Visibility Unit of the Ghana Police Service stationed at Akosombo were on duty at the Volta River Authority (VRA) Hospital main gate around 12:30 p.m. when a Hyundai Grace Urvan bus with registration number GR-3497-Y appeared at the gate and the police signalled the driver to stop to be searched.

He said as soon as the driver stopped, the suspect, Edae, together with his accomplices, sensing danger, forcefully opened the door and took to their heels.

He said while Edae ran towards the VRA mortuary road, his two other accomplices ran into the bush. They were given a hot chase by the driver and his mate together with the police officers but they could not arrest them.

He said when the police inspected the car, they saw five boxes wrapped in black plastic bags suspected to contain Indian hemp.

ASP Yeboah said the police, who were the complainants, escorted the Urvan bus together with the exhibits to the police station for investigation. He said when the five boxes were opened, 209 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found.

He said Edae later went to Akosombo market to buy new clothes to change so that he could not be identified but the police were given a tip-off and he was arrested. Edae was identified by the driver and his mate as one of the owners of the exhibits who were on board the bus.

ASP Yeboah said the police also were able to identify the dress the suspect was wearing when he ran away.
