'November in Namibia' initiative will boost tourism, investment in Ghana - Alhaji Haruna Attah
Ghana's High Commissioner-designate to Namibia, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Haruna Attah,has expressed his determination to promote tourism, trade, cultural and various exchange programmes between the two countries.
He stated that he will achieve that by taking advantage of the forthcoming third edition of the “November in Namibia” programme to achieve results.
Speaking to Graphic Online at an event dubbed “Namibia Braai Night” at the Ghana Club in Accra, Alhaji Attah who was the special guest, indicated that the “November in Namibia” initiative was a “uniquely packaged initiative.”
Patrons, guests
The Namibia Braai Night saw patrons networking as they enjoyed grilled Namibian meat and cocktail.
There were musical and drama performances that thrilled patrons. Other guests included a Nigerian Actor,Segun Arinze and former Minister of Information, Mr Fritz Baffour.
The event was organised by Hype.Up, a Ghanaian marketing, advertising and event management company with support from Abanga Foods, Travelex Aviation and Africa Arts Network among others.
Alhaji Attah explained that he was part of the first two editions of the event and he supported the programme to the satisfaction of patrons.
The High Commissioner-designate said because the earlier two editions were successful patrons yearned for a third edition to be organised for them.
“So the third edition is what is being planned now, and rather propitiously, I'm going in there, because being a Ghanaian, I've just been appointed the High Commissioner-designate of Ghana to Namibia, so now I will have a role to play in advancing the people-to-people contact within the two countries and Africa for that matter" he observed.
Alhaji Attah further pointed out that during the appointment of ambassadors President John Mahama reminded the appointees including him that Ghanaian envoys must perform.
He therefore stressed that it was imperative for him to perform by promoting the initiative to the best of his ability because it has the potential to boost tourism and investment in Ghana.
Benefits, tourism
Touching on the benefits of the initiative, the High Commissioner-designate stated that it would ultimately foster intra-African trade and encourage business partnerships and investments between Ghana and Namibia.
He noted that Namibia's unique landscapes, wildlife, and cultural heritage would be showcased to Ghanaian tourists.
On strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, Alhaji Attah explained that the initiative would enhance cooperation between the two countries, aligning with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda.
In the area of cultural exchange, the programme would promote people-to-people connections, fostering greater understanding and cooperation between Ghana and Namibia.
On investment opportunities Alhaji Attah said the initiative highlights potential investment areas, such as tourism, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
Mr Baffour on his part used the occasion to educate patrons on how Ghana Club, the venue for the event was established and sustained till date.
Background
The "November in Namibia" initiative is a tourism and business programme between Ghana and Namibia, launched to boost intra-African connections and trade.The initiative aims to develop Namibia's tourism industry, promote mutual understanding, and explore business opportunities between the two countries.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Namibia and Ghana in April 2022, paving the way for this collaboration.
The program includes a 10-day visit by a Ghanaian delegation to Namibia, featuring business-to-business networking, tourism exploration, and cultural exchange.
