Off-duty policeman arrested for allegedly shooting man in Accra
The Ghana Police Service has arrested an off-duty policeman for allegedly shooting a man, Stanley Ahadzi, at Koans Estate near Kuntunse in Accra on Sunday, August 18, 2024.
The incident happened around 4 am after a reported confrontation over a disputed taxi fare between the deceased and General Constable Smith Gyeke, who was driving the taxi.
According to a police statement issued on Monday, August 19, 2024, by the Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the body has been sent to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect is currently in custody as part of the investigation.
The statement also mentioned that the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, along with the Police Management Board, visited the family and assured them that the incident would be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect would be brought to justice.
