Offer automatic admission to LLB holders who failed 2017 interview
Some concerned LLB holders have called on Parliament to intervene for the General Legal Council (GLC) to exempt law graduates who were disqualified last year during the interview stage, which was part of the requirements for admission into the Ghana School of Law (GSL).
According to the group, the interview, has been legally scrapped by Parliament and therefore it would be unfair for the council to force them to rewrite the entrance examination which they passed last year.
To them, they should be given automatic admission into the Ghana School of Law this year without any entrance examination.
Already the Supreme Court has declared as unconstitutional the requirement by the General Legal Council (GLC) that persons seeking to enter the Ghana School of Law (GSL) needed to write and pass an entrance examination as well as go through a selection interview.
The court in a unanimous decision in June 2017 directed the GLC to develop a quota system to admit students from the University of Ghana and other schools permitted to run the LLB programme.
Mr Steven Addofo Manu, a spokesperson for the group, said, Parliament should call the council to order by exempting the 2017 applicants from the upcoming entrance examination since the interview has been scrapped by Parliament.
"We suffered for some years under the conduct of the unconstitutional entrance examination and the interview, now Parliament has scrapped the interview, why should we write the examination again this year after passing it last year but refused admission because of the devilish interview? Mr Manu wondered.
