Osei-Kusi awarded Young Professional Role Model

The Executive President of Osei-Kusi Foundation (OKF), Dr Kofi Osei-Kusi, has been adjudged the Young Professional in Youth Development and Motivation Award, by the Young Professional and Youth Coalition’s (YPYC) in Accra.

The OKF has over the years invested in young people in schools, prisons, rural areas through a scholarship scheme for the blind and deaf, leadership, coaching and mentoring programmes, volunteerism and awards schemes.

The foundation is a licensed operator of the Head of State Awards Scheme in Ghana, which is an equivalent of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme in England.

Parts of the citation presented to Dr Osei-Kusi reads: “Generations yet unborn would etch your name in gold for the pioneering role and immeasurable assistance, support, contribution and commitment to youth development and empowerment. The award ceremony of YPYC, the seventh in the series was on the theme: “Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders for Africa’s Transformation.”

Flagship programme

The ceremony is the flagship programme, where young professionals from diverse fields meet to learn and share information on how to maximise their leadership potential towards national development.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Vice President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, said the government recognised the critical role the youth played in national development, hence the number of interventions to support them.

He indicated that government had instituted structures, schemes and interventions not only to transform the lives of the youth, but also to empower them for nation-building.

He commended the management of YPYC for their creativity and foresight in transforming the young professionals and leaders of the country, and promised that the government, through the Ministry of Sports, would form a partnership with the coalition to scale-up entrepreneurship spirit in the youth to harness their potentials.

Capabilities

The President and Founder of YPYC, Mr Andy Osei Okrah, said the organisation strived to present winners, who reflected the best of industry standards and capable of standing competition on the global stage, adding that the annual awards scheme had reignited the ‘can do spirit’ in the youth.

The YPYC President observed that it was imperative for the community at large to continue to strive for excellence in order to inspire the Ghanaian youth to aspire for higher standards and continue to make the nation great and strong.

The Founder of the Salt and Light Ministries, Dr Joyce Aryee, speaking on “integrity”, said integrity was needed at all levels of leadership.

She said some of the integrity indicators included keeping promises, reliability, accountability, responsiveness, transparency and respectfulness.

Other awardees

Other awardees included Mr Kwame Sefa Kayi, host of the Kokrokoo morning show on Peace FM, Nana Kwame Bediako, CEO of Pretonia City and Wonda Estates Limited. Ms Dentaa Amoateng, CEO of the Ghana United Kingdom-Based Achievement Awards (GUBA), Ms Nadia Ismaila, CEO of British International School, awarded the Young Professional Female personality 2015.

Three organisations also received awards. They were World Vision International; the overall Young Professional Role Model Organisation, Samara Group Limited; Young Professional Role Model in Business Organisation and Marie Stopes International; Young Professional Role Model in Education.

The Young Professional Honorary awards were presented to the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, Major Albert Don Chebe (Retd), the Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, while Mr Stephen Appiah, a former Captain of the Black Stars, was adjudged the Young Professional in Sports Leadership.
