Oye Lithur launches prison health insurance scheme and dines with inmates

The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur has launched a health insurance scheme for prison inmates at Ankaful in the Central region.

The event which formed part of a national exercise to register all prison inmates under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was intended to offer prison inmates financial protection against the cost of basic healthcare.

According to the Ministry of Gender, the needs of prison inmates were equally important to government hence the effort to safeguard their healthcare needs.

The Minister who was at the Ankaful prisons on Friday for the launch also had lunch with the inmates, including at the notorious armed robber and convict, Ataa Ayi.
