Parliament recalled for sitting on September 3

Ghana’s Parliament is set to reconvene for an emergency session on Tuesday, September 3, following a petition from the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The decision to recall MPs from their recess comes after Speaker Alban Bagbin adjourned the previous session indefinitely on July 30.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin argued that urgent government business required Parliament's attention, including a financing agreement with the International Development Association and tax exemptions for beneficiaries of the One District, One Factory programme.

The Majority Leader stressed the need to fulfill the government's constitutional obligations and serve the interests of the Ghanaian people.

A public notice issued by the Office of the Speaker said the venue for the session will be disclosed later.

"PURSUANT TO ARTICLE 112 (3) AND ORDERS 5 AND 53 OF THE STANDING ORDERS OF THE PARLIAMENT OF GHANA, I, RT HON ALBAN SUMANA KINGSFORD BAGBIN, SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT, HEREBY SUMMON PARLIAMENT TO SIT ON TUESDAY, THE 3RD DAY OF SEPTEMBER, 2024 AT TEN O'CLOCK IN THE FORENOON AT A PLACE TO BE APPOINTED BY THE SPEAKER IN DUE COURSE," the notice reads.
