A boost for the national economy

Addressing the media at the launch in Accra yesterday, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ms Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said it was welcoming news for Ghana to host this year’s UNWTO conference.

According to  her, a lot of people would be drawn from around the world to attend the three-day event, generating a lot of income for the country, and boosting the nation’s economy.

“This event is a bigger platform which any country desiring to boost its tourism sector will grab because of the international media publicity,” she said.

The launch was attended by some officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

Job creation

Ms Ofosu-Adjare indicated that the event would create additional jobs, especially in the hospitality industry for many Ghanaians, and urged players in the sector to devote much time to ensure the success of the programme.

She further charged members of the newly constituted national planning committee to put all their resources together to ensure the successful organisation of the event.
