Police roll out traffic diversions ahead of state funeral for helicopter crash victims on August 15

The Ghana Police Service has announced traffic and parking arrangements for the state funeral of the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash victims, scheduled for Friday morning at the Black Star Square.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, August 14, 2025, the Police said officers would be deployed from midday on Thursday through to Friday to maintain order and ensure the smooth flow of traffic.

From 5 a.m. on Friday, diversions will be introduced where necessary. Motorists approaching from La Road may be redirected onto Oxford Street, while those travelling from Lokko Street to Castle Road could be diverted to Independence Avenue via the National Theatre.

Drivers using the Professor John Evans Atta Mills High Street may also be redirected onto Liberia Road, depending on congestion.

Parking spaces have been secured near the Independence Arch for VIPs and VVIPs, as well as at the Accra Sports Stadium, Osu Castle Car Park, the frontage of State House, and Efua Sutherland Park. Recovery trucks will be on standby to remove broken-down or abandoned vehicles.

At the Military Cemetery, police will work alongside the Ghana Armed Forces to manage traffic and parking.

Buses will transport the six bereaved families and a limited number of other mourners to the cemetery to ease congestion on Burma Road.
