Police recover weapons and exhibits linked to Mpohor Gold shop robbery
The Ghana Police Service has recovered weapons, ammunition, clothing, and other exhibits linked to the recent Mpohor gold shop robbery, marking a breakthrough in ongoing investigations. One suspect was arrested on August 17.
According to a police statement, officers from the Kuntanase District in the Ashanti Region intercepted a suspicious white Toyota vehicle on the Aputuoagya to Bekwai road near Kuntanase, but two men who were standing by the vehicle fled into the bush on seeing the patrol team.
A search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-47 assault rifle, a locally manufactured firearm, two AK-47 magazines loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition each, additional packets of ammunition, cowrie shells, a Huawei smartphone, identity documents, and clothing items.
Police noted that a comparison between the seized exhibits and CCTV footage of the Mpohor robbery revealed a strong resemblance between the hooded tops and wellington boots used by the suspects during the attack.
The Police Administration has commended the Kuntanase District patrol team for their vigilance and professionalism.
Meanwhile, the investigation team is pursuing further leads, and security operations have been intensified nationwide to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
