According to the Sege District Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Benjamin Buxton, at about 9.30 a.m. on June 17, 2016, a complainant from Sege filed a report at the police station that some people had broken into his home and bolted with his personal effects.

The items were a 32-inch flat screen TV, 25 pieces of assorted clothes, 20 cartons of tomtom canned tomatoes, a home theatre and clothing.

ASP Buxton stated that at about 5 p.m. the same day, the police received information that some people had been spotted packing items into a Hyundai H100 mini bus without a registration number and that the suspects had taken the coastal road from Sege towards Old Ningo.

He said a police team from the Prampram and Sege districts chanced on the suspects unloading the booty from the mini bus into a Toyota corolla with registration number GR 7562-13 at Old Ningo.

According to him, the suspects, on seeing the police, started firing. The police returned fire and in the process wounded Akwetey who died later.
