The President was chosen as Special Guest of Honour at the 2015 World of Work Summit of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) at its annual conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

A statement from the Media Office of the Flagstaff House Friday said, President Mahama would also not attend the 25th Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, which opens in Johannesburg this Sunday.

Disasters

Ghana ended three days of national mourning, declared by the President last Wednesday with a memorial service at the forecourt of the State House.

However, humanitarian and disaster-relief efforts for victims - injured and displaced -of the flood and fire disasters were still ongoing.

An official number of 152 people are known to have died from the double disaster.

Most of them were people who were taking shelter at a petrol filing station when it exploded into flames in the midst of the devastating rainfall that descended on the city.

Other pressing issues

It was not clear "the other pressing national issues" the statement referred to.

But, they may include the harrowing power crisis, which the government has been working hard to resolve.
