President John Dramani Mahama will today meet a very important constitutional obligation with the presentation of the State of the Nation Address to the 275-member Parliament.

Article 67 of the 1992 Constitutions mandates the President to, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before the dissolution of Parliament, deliver a message on the state of the nation to the Legislature.

This year’s address, the Daily Graphic gathered, has the theme: “Structural transformation – rising to the time”.

It comes off at a time the nation is going through a power crisis which has become the most topical issue for some time now.

President Mahama has been criticised by his political opponents for not doing much to resolve the crisis, but he thinks otherwise.

Consequently, he will use the forum to tell Parliament and the nation about the processes put in place to bring the crisis to a close to relieve the people of the difficulties they have endured over the past three years.

He will also discuss the economy, education, health, trade and industry, tourism, housing, sports, among other sectors, zeroing in on the successes achieved and the challenges that he is working assiduously to overcome.

The main chamber of the House is expected to witness an explosive event, looking at the heated political environment in the country.

Traditional heckling by the Minority and applause from the Majority are, therefore, expected during the delivery of the address.
