The initiative, which is the brainchild of The Think Africa Forum, a non-governmental organisation, was launched in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Commendation

A Deputy Director General of the Basic Education Unit of the GES, Mr Stephen Adu, congratulated The Think Africa Forum for initiating an annual competition among second cycle schools in Africa, and was particularly impressed with the determination and enthusiasm shown by the participating students, schools and headmasters.

A former Senior Diplomat, Mr James Victor Gbeho, paid tribute to the founding fathers of Africa and particularly reminded the audience of the role played by Dr Kwame Nkrumah in his attempt to appropriately place Africa and Africans where they belonged in the scheme of global affairs.

Memories

He recounted the challenges that Africa had grappled with in the recent past and called for an all-hands-on-deck approach at this time of the continent’s history.

He was thankful to The Think Africa Forum and all its programmes and projects aimed at making sure that Africa and the African stayed focused on its avouched commitments.

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana,  Ademola Onafowoaan,  who was represented by his Minister in charge of Political Affairs, Osasona Obasola, was elated about the initiative and expressed optimism that it would revitalise oneness among the youth in Africa.

He was interested and thrilled that The Think Africa  Forum named the first Trophy as the James Victor Gbeho Africa Intellectual Integration Trophy since this trophy would be competed for among second cycle educational institutions in Africa.

Launch

Launching the Africa Intellectual Integration Project, a former Director of the Secondary Education Division of the GES, Rev. Simon Asige, commended The Think Africa Forum for also commencing a study club in schools and the Read and Write Mission for the educationally challenged in the society.

That, he said, was very timely and would go a long way to further assist the GES.

The headmasters of three schools that qualified for the initial competition, Yilo Krobo SHS, Lawra Senior High School (SHS) and T. I Ahmadiyya SHS Kumasi, were also grateful for the opportunity to be part of the competition.

The President of The Think Africa Forum, Mr Victor Moffatt, who declared the final results, reminded all the debaters of their roles as the pioneers of the noble mission of an Africa Intellectual Integration initiative.

He admonished them to understand that there was an ‘unfinished Africa agenda’ which needed to be tackled, both as an inter-generational issue with gender considerations.

During the maiden competition, Yilo Krobo SHS from the Eastern Region took the trophy named  the James Victor Gbeho Africa Intellectual Integration Trophy, thereby earning the enviable position of defending the trophy against the winners of the Nigerian edition next year. Lawra SHS from the Upper West Region took the GES Trophy while T. I Ahmadiyya SHS (Kumasi) took the cherished Maulvi Wahab Adam Memorial Trophy.
