Pillars of Modern Ghana awards recognise individuals and corporate bodies that have contributed to make Ghana great. This year’s event was held in Akosombo at the Volta Hotel.

Prof. Dr Asafo-Agyei, accompanied by Mr William Amofa, the manager of the hospital, received the Lifetime Achievement category award in the area of health for his treatment of piles.

Receiving his award, he thanked the organisers for acknowledging the effort of hard-working Ghanaians.

Prof. Asafo-Agyei dedicated the award to patients who had been treated successfully of the disease and had spread the news to others who had contacted the hospital for treatment.

Non surgical treatment

He observed that upon introducing the non-surgical treatment of piles 25 years ago, people from different parts of the world had contacted the hospital for treatment, touting that the hospital boasted the lowest recurrent rate of the disease.

“The recurrence rate stands at seven per cent now compared to the 20 per cent in other parts of the world as research have shown,” he disclosed.
He urged the public to come early for proper diagnosis of the disease to prevent it from becoming severe.
