The case of ace broadcaster, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, who has been accused of rape, has been adjourned to April 22, 2015.

This followed a request by state prosecutors for a one month recess for the court to constitute a jury to hear the popular rape case.

A Kaneshie Magistrate Court on February 19, 2015, committed KKD to stand trial at the High Court over his alleged rape of a 19-year-old student in a hotel.

The hearing was expected to commence Wednesday March 18, 2015 at the Fast Track High Court presided over by Mr Justice Bright Mensah.

But Graphiconline’s Nana Konadu Agyeman who was in court reported that, when the case was called, the prosecution led by a State Attorney, Ms Malike Woanyo told the court that since it was the first time KKD was standing trial at the High Court, they [prosecution] would like to take a date for the hearing to take place after a jury had been constituted.

This, she said the prosecution had considered because it was a trial on indictment.

But the legal team of KKD led by Anthony Forson did not take kindly to the prosecution’s request.

He said she [Woanyo] could have communicated her intentions to him [Forson] early.

“I don’t think I have been treated fairly by my colleague,” he said.

Mr Forson argued that as a matter of courtesy at the bar, “if we can’t start the hearing today, she should have whispered to me since we are ready to start.”

He expressed worry that the accused had been committed since last month and did not see why the state would come for a date for the case to commence.

“You don’t come to court and tell court you want to take a date for hearing.”

KKD is in court for allegedly raping one Ewureffe Orleans Thompson in a washroom of the Africa Regent Hotel in Accra.

He has pleaded not guilty, but a Magistrate court committed him to trial at the High Court, although the victim and complainant has shown lack of interest in the case.

The case will be recalled on April 22, 2015.
