Reaffirming the government’s commitment to make 2016 a year of development, the Vice-President stated that the government was on track with its programme to transform the country.

Mr Amissah-Arthur made the declaration last Friday when he joined members of the Berekum Circuit of the Church of Pentecost to reopen the Goka Prayer Centre in the Jaman North District in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Goka Prayer Centre was closed after the death of Ms Sarah Donkor, the head of the camp in 2011.

It’s reopening saw scores of people, including those from neighbouring countries, thronging the centre to listen to the Word of God.

Keep the peace

Addressing the congregation, the Vice-President asked the church in particular and Ghanaians generally to pray for peace and stability in the country, ahead of the general election.

“Let us renew our faith in God who gives us strength even in times of tiredness,” Mr Amissah-Arthur said, quoting Psalm 27.

Urging Ghanaians to continue to keep faith with the government, Mr Amissah-Arthur said the government had laid the foundation for an economic take-off and expressed the belief that Ghana was on the path to economic recovery.

He donated GH¢10,000 and 200 bags of cement as his contribution towards the construction of a chapel.

Regional minister

Responding to the concerns of chiefs in the area who wanted the government to provide facilities for the Goka Senior High School, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, said a 12-unit classroom and administrative blocks were being constructed for the school.

He added that electricity expansion was still ongoing in the district and assured the chiefs and people that the government was mindful of their concerns. He said: “our development programmes will be extended to every corner of the country.”

Sermon

Preaching the sermon earlier, the Berekum Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Anthony K. Miah, said it was time for Christians to rise up against charlatans who parade as men of God and engaged in evil acts while using the scriptures.

He condemned so-called pastors who took undue advantage of their innocent followers by extorting money and other material items from them as a condition for receiving their healing.

Apostle Miah asked Christians to have faith in God just as Elijah prayed with faith when he acknowledged God in prayer.

The clergyman said God would not answer the prayers of those with questionable motives and, therefore, asked Christians with clean conscience to seek the face of God in times of need for their request to be granted.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, and the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Asiedu Nketia, were among the dignitaries who accompanied the Vice-President.
