Rlg pledges support for 2015 national best teacher and school awards

Rlg Communications Group will for the fifth year running, support this year’s National Best Teacher Award scheme to be held next month.

An official statement issued by the Corporate Affairs Manager of the Group, Emmanuel Arthur said the company intends providing an e-library facility at a cost of US$20,000 for use by schools, pupils and teachers who will emerge tops in the annual awards.

In 2012, RLG Communications presented a brand new Nissan sunny, 2012 model to the Ministry of Education for use as third prize for the National Best Teacher Awards scheme.

Rlg also gave a laptop to each of the regional best teachers during the 18th Edition of the awards scheme. On the whole, Rlg Communications supported the awards scheme with sponsorship valued at about GHc70,000. It was the first time Rlg was supporting the Best Teacher Awards.

In 2013, Rlg Communications through The Rlg Foundation handed over prizes totaling GHc50,000 to the Ministry of Education towards awards.

The foundation sponsored the 2nd runner-up position of the National Best Teacher Awards with a 2012 comprehensively insured Nissan Sunny Salon car, a laptop computer, a set of desktop computer, a printer and Rlg souvenirs.

In 2014, the gave out a KIA Picanto at a cost of GHc35,000; a desk top computer, a laptop and a printer for the 2nd runner-up.

“This year, we commit to provide an e-library facility to promote teaching, learning and research. We intend installing research and learning software and programmes on 40 of our new School Mate Tablets which will also be connected to the internet. This we are hoping to do at a cost of some $20,000 and this will be our way for supporting government’s move for better education”, the statement said.

The National Best Teacher Award is held every year in honour of the sterling role played by teachers. The awards in Ghana coincides with World Teachers Day, a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate teachers worldwide. This year, awards will also be given to schools as part of the newly introduced National Best Schools category.
