Robber jailed 10 years
A 22-YEAR-OLD unemployed man who used a toy gun and a machete to rob two neighbours in broad daylight at Jindale, a suburb of Wa in the Upper West Region, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour.
Mustapha Gafaru pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery when he was arraigned before the court, presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye, who was sitting as an additional Circuit Court Judge.
The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Stephen Frimpong, told the court that on October 3, this year, at about 9.30 a.m., Gafaru raided two homes and made away with a total cash of GH¢309 and a solar lamp valued at GH¢99.00.
In the first instance, C/Inspector Frimpong said Gafaru entered the complainant, Madam Ajara Nuru’s room around 9:30 a.m. and frightened her with the weapons.
C/Inspector Frimpong said Gafaru only got GH¢9.00 from Madam Ajara after ransacking her room.
Not satisfied with his haul, Gafaru held Madam Ajara at gun-point and entered her neighbour’s room. Where he managed to get GH¢300.00 cash and a solar lamp.
Luck ran out for Gafaru when Madam Ajara spotted him in town the next day and raised an alarm. Gafaru was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police.
A search conducted by the police in the Gafaru’s room later led to the retrieval of the toy gun, the machete, a food flask and the solar lamp.
