Rotary Club of Accra Labone, supports 3 siblings
Rotary Club of Accra Labone, a non-governmental organisation, on Thursday, presented GH¢2500 to the Bright Eye Clinic to support the surgery of three siblings who had been diagnosed with bilateral congenital cataract since their birth.

The three are Asimawua Ayiku, 17; Hubaiba Ayiku,10; and Faloza Ayiku, 8;
The three have lost their vision and this has taken a toll on their parents.
A congenital cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Thus it causes dullness of the lens as it obstructs light from passing and being focused on to the retina at the back of the eye.
It is the most common cause of blindness in children at birth and conventionally treated with surgery.
This eye defect could be inherited or caused by infection, metabolic problems, diabetes, trauma, inflammation or drug reactions
It could also occur during pregnancy,when the mother develops infections such as measles or rubella, rubeola, chicken pox, influenza, syphilis among others.
The President of the Rotary club of Accra Labone, Mr Carlis Arko, said it was part of the club’s social responsibility to support the needy in society.

He expressed optimism that the support would help improve the vision of the children, as well as cater for their aftermath treatment.
Their mother, who obviously, could not hide her joy and wept throughout the presentation, called on parents not to give up on their children no matter their disability.
“Children are a gift from God and in his time, he would make the changes he wants,” she said.
In her remarks, the Ophthalmologist of the Bright Eye Clinic, Dr Jia Qingzhen, lauded the club for their support.
She said their timely intervention could help reverse the sight of the children since there was much hope for Hubaiba and Faloza.
