The foundation donated 11 computers and accessories, four sewing machines, two wheelchairs, bales of assorted used clothing and textbooks valued at $20,000 to the District Chief Executive of Bawku West, Mr Simon Ayande Agbango, to be distributed to selected senior high, technical and vocational and basic schools in the area.
Beneficiary schools
The beneficiary schools include the Kusanaba Senior High School, Kusanaba Vocational Institute, Zebilla Senior High School, which are to receive computers and sewing machines, while the Department of Community Development and the Department of Social Welfare are to receive a computer and two wheelchairs respectively.
The Kasonga, Sakum and Wiiga primary schools were also given some books and some bales of used clothings.
Making the presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Mr Justice Attah Afriyie, said most of the beneficiary schools were deprived and needed to be supported.
He said his organisation decided to donate computers and sewing machines to the senior high schools because that would offer them the opportunity to learn some basic skills to support them after they left school.
Migration to southern sector
He said most of the youth left the rural areas to the southern sector after completion of school to look for non-existent jobs because they lacked skills, and added that if they could set up their own businesses, they would not think of embarking on such ventures.
Mr Afriyie advised management and school authorities to ensure periodic maintenance of the equipment to ensure their longer lifespan.
Receiving the items, the Bawku West District Chief Executive, Mr Agbango, commended the foundation for the donation and said it would help in teaching and learning and also enhance the academic performance of the students.
The Bawku West District Director of the Department of Community Development, Mrs Veronica Adongo, expressed her department’s appreciation to the NGO and said the items would enhance the work of the beneficiaries.
