Seven killed in timber truck and tricycle crash in Bia West District
Seven people have died following a collision between a timber truck and a tricycle at Asikuma in the Bia West District of the Western North Region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), through the Debiso Fire Station, said the fatal road traffic accident occurred on Wednesday, January 7.
According to a GNFS Facebook post, a distress call was received at 8:55 am, prompting the immediate dispatch of a rescue team led by ASTNO Wonder. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 9:00 am, just five minutes after the call was placed.
Upon arrival, the team secured the accident scene and commenced rescue and recovery operations in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the National Ambulance Service.
Five of the victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while two others later died while receiving treatment at the Essam Government Hospital, bringing the death toll to seven.
The bodies of the deceased have since been handed over to the police for autopsy and further investigations.
Authorities say the cause of the accident is yet to be established, while investigations continue.
