Show commitment towards children’s education

The Deputy Central Region Minister, Mrs Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, has urged parents to commit themselves to efforts at giving their children the best of education.

She said since education was the best legacy that parents could bequeath to their children, “they should see it as a long-term investment from which they would yield positive outcomes in future.”

Mrs Sawyerr made the recommendation at a ceremony to commemorate the first anniversary of the enstoolment of Berima Owusu Asar I as Benkumhene of Gomoa Dabenyin and Kyidomhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area in the Central Region.

The celebration was on the theme; ‘Quality education, key for better development’. It formed a component part of the annual celebrations of the Akwambo festival of the chiefs and people of the town.

The ceremony was attended by the Omanhene of Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, Obrempong Nyamful Krampah XI; Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, the Omanhene of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area among others.

Mrs Sawyerr urged teachers to be good role models for students and ensure that they used educational facilities at their disposal in a productive way in order to enhance teaching and learning and improve the performance of their students.

She advised schoolchildren to study hard to justify the huge investments government was making in the education sector.

The deputy minister commended the chiefs in the area for the support given to government in its efforts at developing the region.

Benkumhene

In his address, Berima Asar stated that his topmost desire was to see every child in the area have good education.

He encouraged parents to endeavour to provide their children with their educational needs in order to have them inspired to achieve excellence in their academic pursuits.

He commended the government for providing infrastructure including learning materials to schools in the area, particularly at the basic level, so they could improve on their standards.

Berima Asar appealed to the government to provide the town with a health facility as a means of bringing to an end the long travels pregnant women were forced to undertake to seek medical care.

Chairman

The President of the Central Region House of Chiefs, Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, who was chairman for the occasion, said education was the only means by which poverty could be eliminated from the country.

He, therefore, advised schoolchildren  to study hard at all times in order to excel in their education.
