Sierra Leone seeks support for AfDB top post
Sierra Leone is seeking the support of Ghana for the presidency of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The Sierra Leonean Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Dr Samura Kamara, who is the candidate, led a delegation to the Flagstaff House in Accra on Wednesday to confer with Vice-President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur for the government to rally support for him for the top job at the AfDB.
He asked Mr Amissah-Arthur to endorse his nomination, saying that the processes leading to the elections had already commenced.
Dr Kamara presented some documentation on the election for the perusal of the Vice-President.
Ebola
Dr Kamara commended President John Mahama for his leadership style in handling the Ebola menace in the sub-region.
“What started with fear and panic has today reduced significantly,” Dr Kamara averred as he deplored the weak public health system in Sierra Leone and the sub-region at large which accounted for the rapid spread of the disease.
Dr Kamara, who is also a former Finance Minister, said it had been difficult for his country since the disease was recorded - especially the speed with which it spread.
He said Sierra Leone recorded 100 new cases on a daily basis and expressed regret that about 7,000 cases had so far been recorded.

Dr Kamara underscored the need for an aggressive basic education campaign to help contain the Ebola scare, given that the illiteracy level in Sierra Leone was 60 per cent.
Vice-President
Mr Amissah-Arthur was pleased with the significant drop in the cases of the Ebola virus as he reiterated the government’s interest in ensuring that the disease was completely eradicated.
He assured the affected countries of Ghana’s preparedness to provide training facilities to help manage the situation.
