SSNIT pensions go up by 15 per cent

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has increased monthly pensions by 15 per cent for 2015.

Therefore, the minimum monthly pension for fresh pensioners would be GH¢230 with effect from January, 2015, a statement issued in Accra yesterday by the Trust said.

It explained that the increment was in accordance with the National Pensions Act.

The statement, signed by the Corporate Affairs Manager of SSNIT, Ms Evangeline Amegashie, said all monthly pensions as of December 31, 2014, would be increased by a fixed rate of five per cent plus an additional flat amount of GH¢36.92. The GH¢36.92 constitutes the remaining 10 per cent.

It said as of December, 2014, pensioners, who were on the minimum monthly pension of GH¢200, would have their monthly pensions increased to GH¢246.92

Last year, SSNIT increased the minimum monthly pension by 100 per cent.
