Success dependent on hard work, determination — Prof. Nsowa-Nuamah
The Rector of the Kumasi Polytechnic, Professor Nicholas Nsowa-Nuamah, has stated that there is no correlation between success and one’s heritage. Rather, he says, success is dependent on hard work, determination and intervention from God.
He said if one’s heritage and social background were to determine success, there was no way he could get to his present position.
According to him, from a humble beginning as a pupil teacher in a small village, he had risen through the ranks to become a professor of statistics.
Prof. Nsowa-Nuamah expressed appreciation to his late parents for making the education of their children a priority and urged parents who considered themselves poor to do all they could to educate their children in spite of the odds.
Leadership award
Prof. Nsowa-Nuamah offered the recommendation at a ceremony in Kumasi to award him with the African Prize for Innovation, Integrity and Development, by the International Institute for Governance and Development (IIGD) of South Africa.
He was singled out for his exemplary leadership in the field of academia and given the award at a conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa, recently to achnowledge selected academicians from Africa.
A journal, Afro Leadership Magazine, was also launched on the occasion and dedicated to Prof Nsowa-Nuamah for his inspirational leadership.
The magazine is a recommended reading material for hotels, airports, and secondary and tertiary institutions throughout the country.
It has also been recommended for members of Parliament, government ministries, department and agencies.
The Akyempimhene, Oheneba Adusei Poku, who chaired the occasion on behalf of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, bought the first copy of the magazine for GH¢1,000.
He commended Prof. Nsowa-Nuamah for his meritorious service in academia.
