Sustainable Dev Goals launched in Accra

The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ms Christine Evans-Klock, yesterday launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a ceremony in Accra, with a call on corporate bodies to support their implementation.

Supported by the staff of the UN system in Ghana, Ms Evans-Klock raised the SDGs flag to mark the launch at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office in Accra.

The flag-raising coincided with the SDGs Summit held in New York by world leaders yesterday.

SDGs

The SDGs, also called Global Goals, are a proposed set of targets relating to future international development.

They are to replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) once they expire at the end of 2015.

The SDGs were first formally discussed at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development held in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012 (Rio+20).
