Tanzanian judicial delegation calls on Chief Justice
A 17-member delegation from the Tanzania Judicial Service Commission yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice, Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, at the Supreme Court in Accra.

The call was to gain knowledge and understanding of the Judicial Service System of Ghana, its powers and functions, how it handles issues in judicial independence and separation of powers, and judicial reforms, among others.
Other areas of interest included the organisational structure of the Ghanaian Judicial System and its various administrative purposes.
The visit is the third in a series that has been undertaken by other judicial commissions from Uganda and Brazil since February.
Accompanying the Chief Justice to receive the delegation were other justices of the Supreme Court, including Justice William Atuguba, Justice Jones Victor Mawulor Dotse and Justice Rose Owusu.

Justice Theodora Wood lauded the delegation for drawing a programme that would allow both countries to have a beneficial study tour.
She said the relationship between the two countries dated as far back as the era of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, and added that the interaction would further deepen the relationship between the two countries.
Justice Theodora Wood also commended the Chief Justice of Tanzania for his work since he assumed office in 2010, especially his emphasis on access to justice as a tool for development and expressed the hope that both services would benefit from the study tour.

The Chief Justice and Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission of Tanzania, Mr Mohammed Chande Othman, who led the delegation, said the visit was not only an extension of a South-South co-operation but also Africa to Africa co-operation within the judicial system.
He said it was important to learn from other African judicial services because “our environments are similar and this is why we take priority to establish this relationship”.
