Tema West Municipal Assembly receives 2 trucks from Zoomlion

The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has received two skip trucks from Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company, to aid the collection of waste in the municipality.

The presentation was in line with the ‘Clean Ghana Campaign’.

The General Manager of Zoomlion at Tema, Mr Seth Ocran, who made the presentation on behalf of the company, indicated that Zoomlion and its subsidiary company, Meridian Waste Management, have rolled out a programme dubbed "One house, One bin" aimed at ensuring that every household nationwide was provided with a waste bin to avert indiscriminate disposal of waste in across the country.

He stated that the project had been piloted at Tema Community 11, and called on the assembly to support the initiative to have a safe and clean city.

Digitisation

Mr Ocran stated that Zoomlion had also rolled out a Radio Frequency Identification Stickers (RFIDS) system as part of a digitisation project to enable officials to trace every bin to be distributed under the free bin project for easy collection of waste.

He appealed to the assembly to endeavour to enforce bye-laws on sanitation within the municipality.

“One solution to a cleaner municipality is the enforcement of regulations and also addressing the issues where motor cycles, popularly referred to as “borla taxis,” collect household waste and end up dumping them along the motorway and other unauthorised sites in the municipality”, Mr Ocran said.

He assured the assembly that Zoomlion would regularly maintain the vehicles to ensure they stood the test of time.

MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the TWMA, Mrs Adwoa Amoako, in her remarks, commended Zoomlion for helping the assembly which was created some four months ago.

The municipality, she stated, had a myriad of sanitation challenges as a result of the structural defects in many of the communities.

"We see the beginning of our collaboration with Zoomlion in tackling the insanitary situation as a great opportunity to scaling up the Clean Ghana agenda”, Mrs Amoako stated.

Security

The Tema West municipality has over the past years grappled with insecurity resulting from high profile robberies, a situation many had attributed to the lack of adequate street lighting.

The MCE said the situation would soon change as the assembly was in the process of installing about 250 streetlights across the municipality to help provide some level of security within the communities.

"I would want to urge all assembly members to help by taking care of the streetlights within their electoral areas in order to achieve the desired results”, she stressed.
