The unity of Christians means more to God - Awotwi-Pratt
The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, the Most Reverend Titus Kofi Awotwi-Pratt, has called on Christians not to let their different denominations separate them, since the unity of the Body of Christ means more to God than any other thing.

The Most Rev. Awotwi-Pratt said this when he delivered the homily at a Joint Ecumenical Service of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC) and heads of member churches of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) to crown a joint meeting of the GCBC, the CCG and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), last Wednesday to discuss issues of national importance.
A communiqué will be issued after the meeting.
The service was held at the St Theresa Catholic Church and had the theme; “In partnership with God in His world mission”, and was presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Obuasi, Bishop John Yaw Afoakwa.
National interest
Delivering the homily, the Most Rev. Awotwi-Pratt said the church leaders had deliberated on matters of national interest because those issues did not bear tags, titles or names and cut across all the people and tribes in Ghana.
“Our common interest, because if we come together as the people of God and speak with a common voice, our voice will be heard louder than we shouting in our various corners and nobody will hear us,” he said.
Explaining the essence of the joint meeting, the Most Rev. Awotwi-Pratt said, “Our fraternity means more to God than our parochial interests. When we come together like this, He rejoices, therefore our coming together means more to Him than our parochial interests.”
He also said God had given knowledge and the creative ability to man because man was a partner with God in His life forms so God also depended on man to continue creation.
Touching briefly on same-sex marriages, he said the Bible teaches that a male marries a female and a female marries a male.

Communiqué
Giving a hint of the details of the communiqué to be issued by the churches, the Rev. Awotwi-Pratt said “In all the churches are all members of the different political parties and in all the parties are all the different churches”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Parish Priest of St Theresa’s Catholic Church, Very Rev. Father J. Mintah-Mensah, said the ecumenical service was primarily meant to dispel the notion that Christians were split along denominations.
Prayers were said for the nation and its leaders, peaceful elections, all Christians and the poor, the sick and the needy.
In attendance were Bishops of all the Catholic Dioceses in the country, including the Bishop of Konongo and Presiding Bishop of the GCBC, the Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu;the Catholic Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. Gabriel Charles Palmer Buckle; and the Bishop of Kumasi, Most Rev. Gabriel Justice Anokye.
Also in attendance were the heads of churches belonging to the CCG and its General Secretary, Rev. Dr Kwabena Opuni Frimpong.
