So far, $39,805 has been spent on scholarship packages under the partnership programme which was begun in the 2003/2004 academic year.

The Chief of Sokode, Togbe Koku Adzima VII, who spoke at the 10th anniversary in commemoration of the programme, said the sponsored students have come in five batches. He said the first batch comprised six pupils and were followed up with four in the subsequent year, six in the next year, four in the following year and another four who received sponsorship this year.

Guests during the occasion included beneficiaries of the scholarships scheme and a nine-member delegation from Kalamazoo and Lake Michigan Presbyterian Churches, as well as community stakeholders from Sokode-Bagble in the Ho Municipality.

Togbe Adzima said the future of the scheme was very bright in spite of difficulties. He was ,however, hopeful that the impact on community development would be considered by future beneficiaries of the scheme.

For his part, the leader of the group from Kalamazoo, Dr John Petro expressed appreciation at the strong bond of partnership between the churches and the community. He said the relationship was critical for the education and professional life of the students.

A member of the Kalamazoo group, Mr George Barfield, urged the beneficiaries to understand that they were considered future leaders and therefore must strive to succeed in whatever they do.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Paul Abrokwa extended their gratitude to their benefactors. He said because of the scholarship, a number of them would soon graduate from school and were motivated to go back to serve the community.
