They are Kwadwo Effah, alias Obolo, 28 ,and Isaac Ofosu, 24, driver’s mate. Another member of the gang, Isaac Boadi, 26, alias K. K. was arrested last week, bringing the number of the members of the gang arrested so far to three.

Three accomplices of the gang, suspected to have engaged in robbery in Kumasi, have also been arrested. They are Yaw Asiedu 25, drivers mate, Dennis Ofori 20, unemployed, and Kofi Adu, 31, driver.

The suspects were arrested at their hideout at Asonomaso in the Ashanti Region when they were preparing to undertake a robbery operation at the weekend.

The arrest was the result of a collaboration between the Accra and Ashanti Regional Police.

Relocation

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said Effah and Ofosu were part of the gang which escaped arrest after engaging the police in a  shoot-out at Weija, which led to the death of Constable  Akattah.

After the incident, Mr Yohuno said, the gang, led by Nathaniel Adu, alias King Kong, relocated to Kumasi and recruited the other three new members and continued their robbery activities there, after realising that their cover had been blown in Accra.

Adu is currently at large, while the five who had been arrested are on remand.

Accordingn to Mr Yohuno, on relocating to Kumasi, the gang used the same tactics they used for their operations in Accra to rob in Kumasi.

As part of their tactics, he said, the gang normally hired a big Kia truck to convey their booty from their robbery to different locations.

Weija shooting

On January 6, a policeman died when he was shot in the thigh following a gun battle between the police and 12 suspected robbers, at Weija in Accra.

Two of the robbers were gunned down, while four others escaped with gunshot wounds. The police managed to arrest six of them.
