A downpour on May 24, 2016 flooded the entire community for some hours but fortunately no life was lost. About 277 residents of the community were affected by the floods.

The assembly presented 40 bags of rice and 20 cartons of cooking oil. NADMO for its part donated 30 mattresses, 10 bags of maize, 100 pieces of plates, 100 pieces of cups, 30 buckets and 20 basins.

The rest were two boxes of soap, 30 pieces of blankets, two bales of used clothing, 10 bags of rice and two jerricans of cooking oil.

Presenting the items, the District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Mr Albert Kwesi Inkoom, said it was very welcoming that no casualty was recorded during the floods.

He stated that the government was concerned about the plight of the victims, hence the decision to present the items to them, noting that though the items were not enough, they were the government’s widow’s mite.

The NDC parliamentary candidate for the area, Alhaji Alhassan Kobina Ghansah, who also made a cash donation of GH¢1,000 to the victims, said the items would be a huge sigh of relief to the victims.

He urged the residents to organise communal labour to clear all the weeds that were preventing the free flow of water.

The District Coordinator for NADMO, Mr Mubarak Wattara, said the area urgently needed a proper drainage system to stop the perennial flooding.

An elder of the community, Mr Sam Buang, who received the items on behalf of the residents, thanked the government for the assistance and noted that the presentation of the items was timely as it would immediately address some of their basic needs.
