The materials included midwifery kits, protective goggles, stethoscopes, stainless steel bowls, plastic chairs, weighing scales, a TV set, DVD player, office desk, IUD insertion kits and a notice board.

Project

The presentation is part of a collaboration, dubbed: “Country Programme Six” between Ghana and the UNFPA, which started in 2010 and  is expected to end next year.

As part of the project, the UNFPA will be assisting in training and capacity-building of health personnel in the municipality, all geared towards reducing maternal mortality, adult sexual reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, family planning and gender-based issues.

The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly, which will be supervising the project, also benefited from a set of computers and its accessories to enable it to monitor the project in the operational district.

Handing over

Handing over the items to the Municipal Directorate of Health Services, Mr Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu-Juaben, commended the UNFPA for the support.

He challenged the health personnel not to beautify or decorate their offices with the items but rather send them to where their services would be needed.

The Acting Municipal Director of Health Service, Mrs Mary Amponsah-Koduah, on behalf of the municipal directorate, pledged to take good care of the items by distributing them to the rightful personnel.

She said the presentation had come to complement government’s efforts at providing the right materials to improve quality healthcare delivery in the country.
