This is to encourage them to brush their teeth daily before they sleep to prevent oral diseases.

The ceremony was held in Accra recently, as part of activities marking this year’s Global World Oral Health Day, which is marked every year on March 20 to call attention to and create awareness of good oral hygiene practices.

It also aims at encouraging individuals, families, communities and governments to take action and also help reduce the global burden of tooth decay.

‘Brush Night and Day’ campaign

The ‘Brush Night and Day’ campaign aims at introducing more Ghanaian children to brushing their teeth well to avoid major oral problems and have healthier teeth in adulthood.

Unilever used the ceremony to launch its improved quality Close-up toothpaste and also encourage  young children to share their experiences and learn about the importance of regular teeth brushing with their friends and family.

The Regional Brand Director-Oral Care (Africa), Mr Kosala Hewamadduma, in his speech, said tooth decay still affected a sizeable number of the global adult population.

He said by teaching children to brush at a young age, they could establish good oral practice and retain that habit for life.

As part of the World Oral Health Day (WOHD), Unilever, in partnership with the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Dental Association and the Ministry of Health, announced its commitment to improve the oral health of five million children in Ghana by 2020.

Mr Hewamadduma said good hygiene practices must become a habit, requiring a choice by individuals to choose to brush their teeth not only on World Oral Health Day but every day.
