He said through the implementation of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash transfer programme, many vulnerable people, who hitherto did not have any source of income, now had something to look forward to.

Mr Karas said when he paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, in Accra on Thursday.

He said the ministry had developed many policies that demonstrated values and in line with the policies of the USAID and, therefore, called for more effective collaboration between the two entities.

Briefing the Country Director on the work of the ministry in the areas of LEAP and LEAP 1000, the minister said so far LEAP was benefiting 145,000 families, while the LEAP 1000 was benefiting 6,200 poor families, including pregnant women in the Upper East and West regions.

She said the LEAP process had also become more effective as it was now more efficient with the use of electronic transfers to beneficiaries.

She later presented copies of some of the policies and documents of the ministry to the Country Director.
